Howie goes green
Hi friends and family!
It was tricky using certain forms of social media while we were in China because there were a lot of restrictions on our Internet access, so we originally made this website to keep you updated on our travels. We are excited to now use this site as a way to keep you all updated on the transition our family has made to welcome Howie into our lives. The more recent updates begin with an entry from March 22: the day Howie came home. It has taken us a while, but we finally have more videos and photos to share (click the UPDATES button on the bottom right).
Thank you for all the support, love and prayers. We are so blessed and cannot wait for you to meet Howie and see how he has truly changed our lives (for the better)!
Love,
The Greens

When Howie first came home, he could barely walk, and he had lived his first three years in an orphanage where Mandarin was spoken. Little by little we are making progress to help him learn to talk. For now, he knows about thirty signs that we can use to communicate with him. He can say "yes" and "no," and he has his own way of getting everyone's attention. He has a little nickname for all of his siblings and can say "ma-ma" and "da-da." He loves music, and he has learned how to dance. He likes to sing at Church. He's very good at mimicking actions, but words have been a challenge. He can walk now very well and is very steady. We are working with him to learn how to climb up and down stairs (without crawling). He also had to learn how to feed himself and dress himself because he hadn't had the opportunity to learn this in the Shanghai orphanage. He can do his own version of the Sign of the Cross, and he has a way of genuflecting before we sit down at Mass. He can sign, "I love you," and he gives lots of hugs and kisses. He has brought so much love into our house. This link sends you to a video of Howie's transformation since he has lived with us. You can see in the beginning that he could barely walk. Since then, he has gained so much muscle and really developed his own personality. He is spunky and funny and he loves to entertain us.
